RODEN SIGNS FROM ROCHDALE

Former Wigan hooker signs with the Canes on two-year deal

We are delighted to confirm we have signed Aiden Roden following the expiry of his contract with Rochdale Hornets for the next two seasons.

Aiden, 24, started his rugby league career with dual-registration partners Wigan Warriors where he was part of the back-to-back Grand-Final winning under-19’s team in 2018 and 2019. Having made his first-team debut in a friendly against Salford Red Devils during the 2021 season, the young hooker made his professional debut for then-Championship outfit Whitehaven where he would make seven appearances on loan. His first-team experience did not end there, as Wigan would loan him out for the second time that season to Widnes Vikings, where he made six appearances and scored his first professional try.

Those performances at such a young-age caught the attention of Rochdale Hornets who signed him for the 2022 season. Roden would go on to play three seasons at the Crown Oil Arena, scoring 12 tries and kicking a solitary goal in 57 appearances where he primarily played as starting hooker. Aiden has now swapped Greater Manchester for the Midlands as he looks to link up with fellow shining star and 2024 Players’ Player of the Year Danny Barcoe, as well as wily veteran and player/coach Chris Cullimore.

Head Coach Mark Dunning on signing Aiden:

We’re delighted to secure the services of Aiden and welcome him and his family into our Canes family.

Aiden is a high quality player who will add great value to us. He is intelligent in the ruck with good delivery, plenty of scheming and some pace to complement his running game. He’s a player I have admired from afar both recently in his stay at Rochdale and previously when coming through the ranks at Wigan where he was highly thought of.

We look forward to seeing him in a Canes shirt.

Aiden on joining the Canes:

I’m more than happy to be signing at this great club.

Within the past couple of years it’s been a club on the rise with a great set up and coaching staff. I feel as though it will be beneficial personally in terms of progressing my rugby game and I am excited to get started and meet all the fans.

The squad news is coming thick and fast in the Midlands so don’t miss out on the latest scoop: make sure you’re following us on all of our socials (Facebook, X, Instagram and Tiktok).
