ROBERTS REMAINS A CANE FOR 2026
Former Super League winger signs on for a second year at The Alex
We are delighted to confirm that Luis Roberts has signed a contract extension with the Canes that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
Roberts, 23, joined the Canes just before the beginning of the 2025 Betfred League One season following his release from former Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos. Luis made an immediate impact, scoring one of two late tries that secured us our first league win of the season over Goole Vikings at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.
The Welsh international has gone on to feature regularly for the Canes this season, scoring six tries in 12 appearances and only missing one game due to failing a head injury assessment following a knock in the Swinton Lions game. His appearances have clearly impressed Head Coach Mark Dunning and Assistant Coach Leigh Beattie, and after negotiating terms Luis has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see spend a second season at The Alexander Stadium.
CanesTV spoke with Head Coach Mark Dunning about Luis’ contract extension, who said:
“We’re delighted that Luis has committed to the club for another year at least.
Since arriving at the club, Luis has brought great quality and professionalism and it’s fantastic to see him with a smile on his face and enjoying his rugby again. We look forward to seeing him continue to progress with the Canes badge on his chest.”
Luis also spoke with CanesTV regarding his decision to extend his contract:
“I am very excited to be staying with the Canes for another year and it was a very easy decision to put pen to paper! The lads here are amazing, as are the coaching staff, but to have an owner who truly believes in growing the club makes for an environment that you just don’t want to leave. I can’t wait to keep making history with this club in 2026!”
Roberts joins an ever-increasing list of players committing to the Canes for the 2026 season and beyond, so keep an eye out for more retention and signing news!
