CHRIMES SIGNS UNTIL 2026

CHRIME SPREE FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS

We are delighted to confirm that following a couple of loan spells we have now permanently signed Matty Chrimes from Swinton Lions until the end of the 2026 season.

Matty first joined the club dual-registration from Championship-side Sheffield Eagles towards the end of the 2023 season, where he scored three tries in as many games including a brace against Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena. After leaving Sheffield and signing for fellow Championship side Swinton Lions in 2024, he once-again joined the Canes on loan towards the middle of this season and has so far scored four tries in five appearances, including a brace (that should have been a hat-trick!) against Keighley Cougars at The Alex in early June. Having clearly enjoyed his spells on the loan for the club, the 26-year old winger has put pen to paper and signed a permanent deal that keeps him with the club for the next two seasons!

Head Coach Mark Dunning on signing Matty:

"I’m delighted that we have finally secured Matty on a permanent basis.

Matty is a player we know well having spent time with us both on a dual-reg basis last year from Sheffield and on loan this year from Swinton, and to now be able to call him a fully-fledged member of the Canes family until the end of 2026 is great for everybody concerned. Matty brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to go with his undoubted ability and we’re very much looking forward to working with him going forward."

Matty on signing for the Canes permanently:

"I have really enjoyed my time at Midlands over the past couple of years either on loan or dual-reg, this year especially. It is a club run by good people and you can see the foundations have been put in place by Mark and the team for the club to be successful in the long term and this is what really excites me. I have known Mark, Leigh and Boz for a long time now and to play for a coach I respect was a major factor in signing for the club.

We are all on the same page with respect to where our ambitions lie and where we want to be, and with how the squad is shaping up that is certainly achievable. Up the Canes!"

Matty will be in contention for Sunday's away trip to Oldham, along with a number of our new signings. COME ON YOU CANES!
