A reminder: Betfred League One Playoff Structure

With just three rounds of the regular season to go for the Canes and the possibility of a historic playoff spot still in sight, we wanted to give fans a reminder of the promotion and play-off structure for 2024.

The team finishing top of Betfred League One will secure automatic promotion to the Betfred Championship. Those finishing between second and sixth will compete in a play-off series to determine which other team will have a chance of being promoted as follows:

Week 1: Saturday 14/Sunday 15 September
Qualifying play-off: 3rd v 4th; and
Elimination play-off: 5th v 6th

Week 2: Saturday 21/Sunday 22 September
Semi-final 1: 2nd v Winner of qualifying play-off (winner goes straight through to the final);
Semi-final 2: Loser of qualifying play-off v Winner of elimination play-off  

Week 3: Sunday 29 September
Preliminary Final: Loser of Semi-final 1 v Winner of Semi-final 2

Week 4: Sunday 6 October
League One Promotion Play-off Final: Winner of Semi-final 1 v Winner of Preliminary Final
To be played at the home of the finalist which finished highest in the league in the regular season

Week 5: Sunday 13 October
Relegation/Promotion Play-off: 12th in Championship v Winner of League One Promotion Play-off Final
To be played at the home of the Championship team. 

At present, the Hurricanes (6th place, 14 points) are battling it out with Sunday’s visitors Workington Town (5th place, 16 points) and North Wales Crusaders (7th place, 14 points) for the final two play-off spots. The Canes have three regular fixtures remaining (11 August - Workington (H), 18 August - Cornwall (A) and 31 August - Hunslet (H)), as do Workington (11 August- Midlands (A), 25 August - Newcastle Thunder (H) and 1 September - Oldham (A)). North Wales Crusaders have four game remaining (11 August - Keighley (H), 18 August - Hunslet (A), 25 August - Oldham (A) and 1 September - Cornwall (H)). With everything to play for, you won’t want to miss this Sunday’s game!
