KIRBY RETAINED FOR 2025

Vice-Captain signs an extension for 2025!

We are delighted to confirm that Vice-Captain Jon-Luke Kirby has signed a new deal with the Midlands Hurricanes for the 2025 season, with the Canes retaining an option to extend this until the end of the 2026 season.

Much like our last announced retention in Danny Barcoe, Jon-Luke joined the Canes towards the tail-end of the 2023 season shortly after Head Coach Mark Dunning signing with the club. The prop has been a regular fixture of the squad ever since, featuring twenty-three times for the Hurricanes and only missing only two games to date. We are looking forward to seeing what Jon-Luke will do in a Canes shirt for 2025!

Jon-Luke on extending his time with the Canes:

I am so pleased to be staying with the Hurricanes. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club so far and the goals that Mark and the rest of the staff have, align closely with my own which made the decision for me to stay an easy one.

The family ethos and energy we have at the club, combined with the ambition that this club has makes me thoroughly excited for the future and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of that future.

Head Coach Mark Dunning on retaining Kirby:

We’re delighted to retain Jon for another year with an option for a second. This is a sign of intent by the club and Jon as to where our ambitions lie.

Jon is a very good professional and as our Vice-Captain he’s certainly someone who has a positive influence on the squad and those around him.

He’s very coachable and consistent, as well as having a strong desire to keep improving his own game and the influence that he has on the team.

Come cheer on Jon-Luke and the rest of the squad as we take on Workington Town this Sunday in what promises to be a crucial clash in the race for the 2024 playoffs. Tickets for that game can be purchased HERE. This game is also our Local Heroes Appreciation Fixture, with public servants in the Midlands able to claim FREE TICKETS by applying HERE.
