MCLELLAND SIGNS UNTIL THE END OF 2026

Callum McLelland signs two-year extension with the Canes

We are delighted to confirm that half-back Callum McLelland has a signed an extension to his contract with the Canes that will see him remain with the club for the next two seasons.

Callum joined the club at the start of the season following his release from Castleford Tigers mid-way through the 2023 season. Having considered potentially retiring from the sport after his time at the Tigers was hampered by injuries, McLelland found a new lease of life with the Canes and made his debut in our 24-20 Challenge Cup defeat to Rochdale Hornets in which he made two assists. The young half-back has gone on to make 13 appearances for the club, scoring five tries and providing numerous assists whether playing alongside veteran playmaker Dave Hewitt or former Tigers half-back partner Jake Sweeting.

We’re very excited to see what McLelland can do with more games under his belt in the coming seasons!

Callum on re-signing with the Canes:
It was a really easy decision for me to stay for another two years.  The club is building something special and I can’t wait to be apart of it going forward.

I can’t wait to be playing at the Alex for the next two seasons, especially with the aspirations we have as a club.

Head Coach Mark Dunning on retaining Callum:
We’re delighted to agree a two year extension for Callum keeping him at the club until at least 2026.
Callum is another pivotal player who brings a lot of knowledge and experience to our spine despite only being 24 years old.

I think everyone is happy to see Cal back in the game with a smile on his face, especially everyone associated with the Canes!

You can watch McLelland and the rest of the Canes in action at The Alexander Stadium this Sunday as we take on Workington Town in what will be a pivotal fixture in the race for the playoffs. You can buy your tickets for that game HERE.
