JOSH JORDAN-ROBERTS IS A CANE

Experienced forward joins the storm for 2025

We are delighted to confirm we have signed experienced second-row and loose forward Josh Jordan-Roberts from recently promoted Hunslet.

Jordan-Roberts, 26, has already played 135 games at Super League, Championship and League One level and was part of the Hunslet side that upset Swinton last month and secured the Parksiders promotion to the Championship for the 2025 season.

Josh’s career started at Super League giants Leeds Rhinos after a spell at Oulton Raiders, where he made his professional debut just after his 18th birthday during the Rhino’s 37-12 victory over Leigh Centurions (as they then were) in the 2016 Challenge Cup. Josh went on to make a further appearance and his Super League debut for Leeds in 2017, as well as two spells on loan for their rivals Bradford Bulls (playing seven times in 2017) and then-League One outfit Hunslet (playing 15 times and scoring his first professional try in 2018).

His performances for Hunslet attracted the attention of then-League One side York Knights, who signed the young forward for the remainder of the 2018 season. His previous form stood firm, and he and his teammates helped the club win the League One title and earn promotion to the Championship. He went on to spend two further seasons with the Knights, scoring six tries in 30 appearances.

Josh then went on to sign for League One side Rochdale Hornets on a two-year deal from the 2021 season. He made 17 appearances for the Greater Manchester club, scoring three tries and kicking 25 goals. His last club (Hunslet) initially snapped him up from Rochdale for the 2022 season on a one-year deal, however the popular forward ending up spending three years at the South Leeds Stadium, scoring 19 tries (and kicking a solitary goal) in 64 appearances. He proved to be a particular thorn for the Canes in 2024, scoring three tries against the club during Hunslet’s 26-30 and 22-28 wins at each end of the season.

He has now swapped South Leeds for Birmingham and the Alexander Stadium, and we are sure Canes fans will be excited to see him make his mark at the home of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Head Coach Mark Dunning on signing Josh:

We’re delighted to welcome Josh and his family to the club and the wider Canes family.

Josh brings with him a wealth of experience having played Super league, Championship, and League One where he’s twice won promotion. At the age of 26, we believe that his best years are ahead of him and look forward to that being in a Hurricanes’ shirt.

We’re looking forward to seeing him join the group in pre-season and seeing him drive standards and competition within our group.

Josh had this to say on joining the Canes:

I’m delighted to be joining the club for 2025.

The ambitions of the club are really exciting and that’s what encouraged me to join the Canes. After speaking with Mark and listening to him outline his plans for next season, I was buzzing about coming across. League One is going to be the toughest it has been in years, but with the calibre of players available to us - matched with the ambition of the board - I see us being successful.

Josh’s addition to the squad means that in addition to retaining the vast majority of our 2024 playing squad, Josh becomes our ninth new signing for 2025 alongside Ryan Johnson, Aiden Roden, Jose Kenga, Elliot Morris, Zeus Silk, Mikey Wood, Sully Medforth and Travis Corion.
