JAKE SWEETING ON BOARD FOR 2025

Sweeting signs one-year contract extension

We are delighted to confirm that young half-back Jake Sweeting will be a member of the Hurricanes playing squad for the 2025 season.

Jake first joined the Canes during the final weeks of the 2023 season on loan from Keighley Cougars, helping us win our final two games of the season over London Skolars (18-38) and Oldham (10-18). The now 24-year old then converted his loan spell into a permanent signing for the 2024 season and has made a huge impact despite missing half the season with injuries, scoring 5 tries and kicking 36 conversions/penalties in 11 games as of this writing. Whether paired with his former Castleford Tigers partner Callum McLelland or veteran halfback David Hewitt, Jake has provided a commanding prescence on the field and made magic happen when holding the ball. We’re very excited to see what Jake can do for the club in 2025.

Jake on signing with the Canes for next season:

I’ve really enjoyed my time so far at the Canes and it was an easy choice to stay for as long as I could. I’d like to give a big thank you to Mark, Leigh and the rest of the coaching staff for been patient with me as it has been a difficult season for me, but I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and the playoffs and hopefully we get what we deserve as a squad as something special is building!

Head Coach Mark Dunning on re-signing Jake:

We’re delighted that Jake has agreed to extend his stay with the club. Jake’s an important part of our team and spine we have seen just how effective he can be at times this year. It’s been a tough time for him with injury and personal tragedy this year, but the maturity and professionalism that he has demonstrated is a testament to him as an individual.

We look forward to seeing him continue his progression, as well as staying fit and healthy, throughout the remainder of this season and the next.

Jake isn’t the only re-signing news we have for you this week, so keep your eyes peeled!
