CANES RETAIN NEWBOULT

Young half-back Newboult retained for 2025

We are pleased to confirm that we have retained Ethan Newboult on a one-year deal after deciding to exercise an existing option in his 2024 contract.

The youthful half, who can also play at hooker, initially signed a short-term deal with the Canes just before deadline day last season following two seasons featuring for Bradford Bulls reserves, as well as making his first-team debut in a 34-32 pre-season victory over Super League side Hull FC. He is yet to make his debut for Midlands, however his efforts in training have impressed Head Coach Mark Dunning and Assistant Coach Leigh Beattie, who are keen to see what the starlet can do in a Canes shirt for next season.

Ethan on staying on for 2025:

The club is going in a great direction. I am looking forward to next year so I can get involved and help the team as much as I can.

Head Coach Mark Dunning on retaining Ethan:

We’re happy to retain Ethan for the 2025 season.

Having joined us late in the year he settled in really well and has earned the respect of his peers which is testament to how he has applied himself.

We’re excited to see him continue his progression with us and really challenge for a spot in the 17 on a consistent basis."

Ethan joins an extensive list of retained talent this year, which embodies Mark and Leigh’s commitment to producing and keeping a committed squad of players representing the Midlands. We still have further announcements to make in the coming weeks as we head towards the 2025 pre-season, so keep your eyes peeled!
