Young powerhouse puts pen to paper until 2027

We are thrilled to announce that young second-rower Tom Wilkinson has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract that will keep him at the Hurricanes until the end of the 2027 season.

Tom will be no stranger to Canes fans, having made his competitive debut in 2022 - at the age of 19 - whilst on dual-registration from 2025 Challenge Cup Winners Hull Kingston Rovers alongside ex-Cane and current Dewsbury forward Bailey Dawson. The 22-year-old, who has been a standout performer for the Canes since permanently joining the club mid-way through 2023, has established himself as a key figure in the squad and his powerful runs, pinball-like tackle busting, and impressive try-scoring record has earned him the admiration of fans, teammates, and coaches alike.

After a barnstorming 2024 season saw him score 12 tries in 22 appearances, it was unsurprising that Wilko saw himself pick up the Supporters’ Player of the Year award at the End of Season Awards. His good try-scoring form has continued into 2025, with seven tries in ten appearances so far this season contributing to an overall tally of 23 tries in 49 appearances. With such strong scoring form, Canes fans will be keeping everything crossed that his strong performances continue for the next two years.

Asked about his thoughts on the announcement, Head Coach Mark Dunning said:

“We’re delighted that Tom has agreed to extend his contract and continue his development with us here at the Canes.

Tom’s progress over the last 18 months has earned him this extension and we look forward to working with him to achieve his potential and add further value to the team. ”

Speaking with CanesTV, Tom Wilkinson expressed his excitement about the future, saying:

“I’m really excited to sign with the canes for the next two years.

I’ve loved my time at the club so far and the environment that the staff, players and fans have built is great to be a part of. The club is improving on and off the pitch and to be a part of this journey means a lot to me.”
