SULLY SIGNS TWO-YEAR EXTENSION

Young halfback commits future to Midlands until end of 2027

We are delighted to announce that half-back Sully Medforth has signed a new contract that will see him remain with the club until the end of the 2027 season.

The 20-year-old joined the Hurricanes initially on loan from Hull FC towards the end of last season and made an immediate impact with a series of impressive performances, including scoring his first senior try against Hunslet and contributing three conversions in a crucial away win against Cornwall. His efforts on the pitch and commitment off it led to a permanent deal ahead of the 2025 season.

Initially signed as a future prospect to compliment existing halves Jake Sweeting and Callum McLelland, an injury in February to our Captain propelled Sully into the first-team squad where he has since become a key part of the starting line-up, scoring five tries and kicking four conversions in 11 appearances in both the 1895 Cup and Betfred League One. These performances have clearly impressed Mark Dunning and Leigh Beattie, with the club keen to keep the youngster on the books at the half-way point of this season.

Head Coach Mark Dunning had this to say on retaining Sully:

“We’re delighted that Sully will be with us for a minimum of the next two years.

Since joining the club Sully has matured on and off the field and after patiently waiting for his chance has taken it with both hands, which has earned him this extension.

Sully is still a young man playing a pivotal role in our squad, and we’re excited to see him continue to develop and mature in his role and we will nurture him carefully in pursuit of his full potential.”

Speaking with CanesTV, Sully said:

“I am buzzing to get this deal sorted. I can’t wait to keep growing in this environment that’s been built here and help contribute to growing the game out here in the Midlands”

Fans keen on hearing more retention announcements may not have to wait long, as we hear on the grapevine that new contracts are being agreed with members of the squad as Mark, Leigh and the squad prepare for the 2026 season and beyond!
