REVEALED: NOMINEES FOR 2024 FANS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Four players nominated by Supporters Club committee for fans player of the year!

With the 2024 End of Season awards just a week away, we have asked the Supporters Club Committee to nominate up to four players for the Fans Player of the Year award. Welsh prop Sam Bowring was the lucky winner of the 2023 award (batting away competition from Matty Welham, Liam Welham and Elliott Windley). Following those discussions, we can now confirm the four nominees (with their profiles as written by the Supporters Club) - as well as how to vote - below:

1. Todd Horner (Sponsored by Yorkshire Ceiling Services)

Todd has quickly established himself as a fan favourite for his fearlessness and high quality performances ever since joining the club mid-way through the 2023 season. The 20 year old has had a very strong 2024, scoring 10 tries in 21 games as of writing and routinely being a threat in attack in defence. It is of no surprise to the Supporters Club that he seems to regularly one of the first people on Head Coach Mark Dunning’s teamsheet (and not only because he’s our fullback!). We’re really excited to see what he can do with the Canes over the next two years

2. Danny Barcoe (Sponsored by SDM Signs and Graphics Ltd)

Much like Todd, Danny has cemented himself as the club’s #9 hooker since joining the club towards the tail-end of last season despite fierce competition in Chris Cullimore and Elliott Windley. As with Todd he has played all but one game this season and his trademark scoots from dummy-half have made him a menace to the rest of the teams in the league. He has six tries to his name so far this season but the number of tries his efforts have contributed to well exceed that. We’re delighted he has re-signed for the 2025 season.

3. Tom Wilkinson (Sponsored by JW Visual)

Of the four players nominated, Tom has the most history with the club having initially appeared on loan from Hull KR towards the back end of the 2022 season before signing permanently following his release from Dewsbury Rams mid-way through the 2023 season. Whilst he has always been a strong performer he has excelled himself this season at second-row, which is shown through an impressive 12 tries in 21 games and regularly featuring as a first-team player week-in, week-out. It has also been wonderful seeing the support he has from his family both in the stands and on social media every week.

4. Callum McLelland (Sponsored by Gllee UK Ltd)

Everybody knows Callum joined the club mid-way through pre-season on the back of having not played a professional game of rugby in over two years due to ongoing injury issues at Castleford, so it is fair to say that some fans had to put faith in his ability despite his obvious natural talent. Simply put, Callum has repaid that faith in spades through some scintillating tries and innumerable assists throughout the season and it is fantastic news that he has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2026 season. We really enjoyed that highlight reel!

HOW TO VOTE:

We will shortly be releasing polls via posts on Facebook, Twitter (X) and Instagram where fans will be able to vote for their preferred choice up until 6pm on Wednesday 28 August. These votes will have a 75% weighting on the eventual winner, with the remaining 25% coming from the votes of members of the Supporters Club. The winner will be announced at the End of Season Awards next Saturday (31 August) straight after the last game of the regular season versus Hunslet RLFC. You can still buy tickets to that game, as well as upgrade to hospitality and/or the End of Season awards, HERE.
