MORAN ON BOARD FOR 2026
Scottish international signs 12-month extension
We are pleased to confirm that we have agreed an extension to prop Kieran Moran’s contract that will see his stay at the club extended until at least the end of the 2026 season.
Kieran, 28, who has just over 100 appearances under his belt domestically and internationally, first joined the club on a permanent basis in 2023 under former Head Coach Rich Squires, however he would soon reunite with Head Coach Mark Dunning mid-way through that season and has become a mainstay ever since.
His first season saw him makes 18 appearances, with his sole try coming against Bradford Bulls (then managed by one Mark Dunning) in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup. Having signed an extension for 2024, he went on to make a further 13 appearances during that campaign and scored another try, this time a barnstorming run through the Newcastle Thunder defence as we secured a 70-16 win at The Alexander Stadium.
Whilst agreeing another extension to his contract for this season and regularly featuring in the earlier rounds, Kieran unfortunately saw his playing time limited to nine appearances due to injury but made a concerted effort to get back into the squad, which was rewarded by appearances against Keighley, Dewsbury and Newcastle in the final three weeks of the season.
With the 2026 pre-season slowly creeping upon us, Kieran will be part of the storm again in 2026 and will be keen to join the ever-growing list of Canes players to hit the 50+ appearance mark!
CanesTV spoke with Head Coach Mark Dunning on agreeing Kieran’s extension:
“We’re really happy that Kieran has agreed to remain a Cane for what will be his fourth consecutive season in 2026.
Injuries have unfortunately hampered him and his contributions throughout the 2025 season but he’s hopefully over that now and hungry to make 2026 a great year personally and holistically.
Its is no secret that a fit and healthy Kieran Moran is a good asset to have at the club and we’re looking forward to seeing him contribute to the group going forward as we step into the Championship for the first time.”
CanesTV also caught up with Kieran regarding the decision to extend his contract:
“I’m really happy to be resigning for the Canes for a fourth season.
We’ve got a great set of players and coaches and have built a great culture over the last couple of years or so. I’m really looking forward to what we can achieve moving into the new Championship structure next year!”
Kieran becomes our third confirmed retention of the 2026 season following the announcements regarding the club’s decision to exercise options in Todd Horner and Jon-Luke Kirby’s contracts. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we are far from done and have plenty more signing and retention news to share with our loyal supporters during the off-season.
