Match Preview: Dewsbury Rams v Midland Hurricanes

DEWSBURY RAMS v MIDLANDS HURRICANES

Sunday March 5th

Kick off 3pm

After the high’s of two opening wins for the season , including their first in 2023 at their new home Alexander Stadium, the Hurricanes continue their League One campaign this Sunday (5th)  to Dewsbury Rams ,in what will be a historic first ever meeting between the two clubs in the professional game .

After a long spell in the Championship the Rams found themselves relegated to League 1 last season and Hurricanes Club Captain Chris Cullimore (left) is aware of the challenge they pose ‘Dewsbury will be a tough test this weekend having dropped out of the Championship last year, they have a mix of youth and experience throughout the side, they are particularly good at home on their small pitch’ he said .

Coached by former Wakefield Scrum Half Liam Finn and led on the field by the veteran former England International Paul Sykes they opened their League one season with a comprehensive 38-18 victory away at North Wales Crusaders , former Oldham fullback Owen Retstall and ex Castleford center Caelum Jordan both scoring two tries each .

Midlands currently lie second on the table on points difference to Workington town after their opening victory against Cornwall

The trip to the Flair Stadium is the beginning of a tough run of games for the Midlands with Cullimore commenting ‘March is the start of a big month for the team playing against three teams tipped to be at the top of the league come the end of the year, the lads are keen to get it off to a good start with a win against the Rams ’

Midlands currently lie second on the table on points difference to Workington Town after their opening 40-6 victory against Cornwall, with the Rams close behind in third .

For Club Captain Cullimore it’s a chance for his team to make an impression against one of the more fancied teams in the division ‘Off the back of two good wins, the mood in camp at the moment is high. although we aren’t getting too ahead of ourselves just yet.’

The training intensity has picked up this week and competition for places in the match day seventeen  is the best it’s been since I’ve being at the club. The lads are looking forward to the test Sunday and are confident of coming away with the points and sending the Midlands fans home happy’
