JOSH JORDAN-ROBERTS EXTENDS
Experienced second-rower will be a Cane for a second season
We are pleased to confirm that the club has instigated an option in Josh Jordan-Roberts’ contract that will see the former Leeds, York, Rochdale and Hunslet player stay at The Alex until the end of the 2026 season.
Josh, 27, joined the Canes during the 2025 pre-season following Hunslet’s promotion to the Betfred Championship via the 2024 play-offs. Handed the #12 shirt next to fellow second-rower Tom Wilkinson, Josh began featuring for the Canes during the pre-season cup run but would unfortunately suffer an injury during our Third Round Challenge Cup defeat to Salford Red Devils at The Alex. This injury would keep him out of the squad until late March when he returned during our 6-54 away victory over Newcastle Thunder.
Josh went on to make 12 appearances during the 2025 season, scoring his sole try during our 18-31 defeat at home to North Wales Crusaders. We’re looking forward to seeing Josh make more appearances during 2026, which should shortly see him hit the impressive milestone of 150 professional career appearances.
CanesTV spoke with Josh Jordan-Roberts about staying with the Canes for 2026:
“I’m really happy to be staying with the Canes another year. I was unlucky to be injured early on in the season but once I got an opportunity to play regularly I feel like I made a positive impact on the team
We’ve already got a great group and with the new faces coming in, it makes for a very exciting year. The club is in a very, very good place with the culture that has been created and it’s a class environment to a part of.
I’m hoping for a successful year in 2026.”
CanesTV also spoke with Head Coach Mark Dunning regarding retaining Josh:
“We’re really pleased to instigate the option within Josh’s contract which will see him remain at the Canes for 2026.
Josh brings a lot of experience and professionalism to our group and we saw the impact this had on the field at various times last year. We look forward to Josh having further opportunities to make an impact for us next season.”
Josh becomes our fourth retention announcement during the off-season (following Todd Horner, Jon-Luke Kirby and Kieran Moran) and our TENTH piece of squad news following the conclusion of the 2025 season. We’ve still got more news to share with you in the coming weeks so make sure to keep an eye on our socials for further announcements.
