JEBSON JOINS THE STORM

Young second rower/centre joins the Canes on two-year deal

We are delighted to announce the signing of former Hull FC youngster Zach Jebson on a deal until the end of the 2027 season.

At just the age of 21, it is fair to say Zach reflects a departure from some of the older heads that have been announced by the Canes in recent weeks. However, the plucky young second rower has already experienced playing at the highest level of the English game and joins the club armed with both experience and bags of potential to be a promising member of the Midlands squad.

Playing rugby league during his youth for community club Cottingham Tigers, Zach joined the Airlie Birds aged just 15 and made his way through the club’s academy and reserve squads. Having been invited to join the club’s first team for pre-season training during the 2022 season, it would only take another season for him to make his professional (and Super League) debut as he came off the bench against St Helens in the final round of the 2023 season at just 19 years old. With the club representing West Hull going through a period of transition in 2024, Zach found himself presented with opportunities to shine and made ten appearances for Hull, scoring the club’s only try during their home defeat to Salford Red Devils in mid-September.

Whilst Zach found first team opportunities limited in 2025, he continued to regularly feature for the club’s reserve side. He was also able to gain some valuable first team experience in League One as made two appearances on loan for newbies Goole Vikings, as well as three loan appearances for Workington Town where he would go on to score two impressive tries against the Hurricanes at Derwent Park in July.

With the Canes left to lick their wounds as a result of his ability to accelerate at will and find space during breakdowns in play, we are certain that any Canes fans watching Zach at The Alex or on the road will quickly appreciate his abilities and enjoy watching him make his mark in a Canes jersey in 2026.

CanesTV spoke with Zach on his decision to join the club:

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to sign with this club and I’m excited about the challenge ahead. Moving into the Championship is a big step, and with the quality already in the squad - as well as the new signings that have been announced - I believe we’re in a strong position to not only compete but to really challenge the other teams in the division.

From what I have seen the club is heading in a very positive direction, and to commit here for the next two years is something I’m proud of. Having been with Hull FC since the age of 15, this move represents an exciting new chapter for me. I’m looking forward to working hard to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches, and to showing the loyal Canes supporters how proud I am to represent this club.

I can’t wait to meet the squad, get stuck into pre-season next month and put myself in the best possible position to contribute when the new season begins.”

CanesTV also spoke with Head Coach Mark Dunning about securing Zach for the next two seasons:

“We’re delighted to welcome Zach and his family to our club and the wider Canes family.

Zach is a very highly rated young man who has come through the Hull FC system and impressed them enough to earn a taste of Super League with the black and whites. He is a back rower by trade but is equally capable and comfortable in the centre which brings extra flexibility to the squad.

We saw last year away at Workington his ability and athleticism and we are grateful for the opportunity to see him display those traits for us rather than against us! I also have no doubt he will continue to improve with experience which will excite everyone associated with the club.

We look forward to seeing him in a Canes shirt in 2026 and beyond.”

Zach becomes our fifth off-season signing announcement for 2026, following the news of the club signing Lewis Else, Danny Craven, Cian Tyrer and Oliver Roberts. With pre-season due to kick off in just over a month we still have plenty of exciting news to bring fans over October and November about the squad, season tickets and the new Championship format for next season. Its safe to say its a good time to be a Cane!
