Hurricanes New Regional Home
Midlands Hurricanes Rugby League have secured a new interim home for the 2022 season at Birmingham & Solihull Bees RFC’s Forshaw Heath Lane Ground, Portway, Birmingham.
The Bees’ ground is situated just off Junction 3 of the M42 in the heart of the Midlands region between major transport routes connecting Coventry, Birmingham, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Worcestershire, Stratford and Birmingham Airport; being just off the M40, M5 and M6. It is a great location for an interim year of development as a new club in Betfred League One; in an easily accessible location for Midlands based Rugby League fans and away fans alike.
The new deal will see the Hurricanes playing Betfred League One, Challenge Cup and Pre-season friendly games in Birmingham together with it being the Hurricanes’ training base for the season. The new ground has plenty of onsite parking for fans, a well-appointed clubhouse, main stand, multiple playing fields and facilities for the Hurricanes to bring a festival feel to game days.
Hurricanes CEO, Alan Robinson, said:
“The overarching business plan is about harnessing the power of the geographic area behind one new regional brand and one powerful cause for sustainable expansion. The arrangements for the 2022 season bring together our training base and playing venue; and will allow the Hurricanes to develop new commercial revenue streams which have never been available previously.”
The Hurricanes intend to secure a longer-term permanent base for season 2023 and beyond; and are currently in discussions with the owners of the Alexander Stadium, Perry Barr, Birmingham.
The Hurricanes are now looking forward to Sunday and the release of the new Betfred League One fixtures. Once released, details of season memberships and new Hurricanes squad signings will be published next week.
