HORNER EXTENDS UNTIL THE END OF 2026

Young full-back commits for a fourth season with the Canes

We are delighted to confirm that Todd Horner has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him committed to the Canes until the end of the 2026 season (with the club retaining an option to extend this until the end of the 2027 season).

Todd, who only turns 21 next month, was one of Head Coach Mark Dunning’s first signings following him taking over the reigns mid-way through the 2023 season, and fans will remember Todd’s first touch of the ball that saw him carve through the Dewsbury defence to score a debut try. The plucky young fullback has been one of the first names on the team-sheet since joining the club, and has gone on to score 13 tries in 34 appearances to date.

Despite his young age and the fact he’s played fewer than two full seasons at The Alex, Todd is already on course to join the 50+ club if he continues to retain a regular spot in a Canes side gunning for a spot in the 2025 Super 8s come September. We’re sure all of the Canes supporters will be looking forward to seeing him in a Canes shirt for the next two years (and beyond…?).

Speaking with Todd, he had this to say about signing with the Canes for 2026:

My decision to extend my contract was an easy one when Leigh and Mark offered me the opportunity.

I’ve worked with them both for a number of years now. I’m really excited about what this club has to offer and can’t wait to see where we can take it in the future.

We also spoke with Head Coach Mark Dunning, who had this to say on retaining Todd for 2026:

We’re delighted that Todd has committed his future to the club beyond his current contract.

Having originally signed him 18 months ago as a centre / winger, we quickly identified his potential to become a quality fullback and his impressive development led to his Betfred League One Young Player of the Year nomination at the end of last year.

He has come back to pre-season this year full of commitment and determination to build on last season and his hard work and dedication has earned him this new deal. He’s a talented young man who has the respect of all the coaching staff and players alike, and we’re excited to see his continued progression in a Canes shirt.
