FOULSTONE JOINS AS STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH

Former Salford and Huddersfield coach joins Canes’ backroom staff

We are delighted to announce the signing of Carl Foulstone as our new Head of Strength and Conditioning Coach. Carl will take over the role from Josh Griffin following the announcement that he has signed for Super League club York Knights ahead of the 2026 season.

Carl (affectionately known as “Pottsy”) is no stranger to rugby league, having coached at two Super League clubs over a period of eight seasons and earned a call-up to coach at international level as well with Jamaica ahead of their historic debut appearance in the 2021 World Cup.

His first taste of Super League coaching came with Salford Red Devils, where he was Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2018 - 2020 seasons in which Salford’s arguably enjoyed its most recent success - being Grand Finalists and Challenge Cup Finalists during the 2019 and 2020 seasons respectively. He then swapped Salford for Huddersfield ahead of the 2021 season as he became their First Team Strength and Conditioning Coach, and would see himself as part of the Giants’ set-up for five seasons up to and including the end of last season.

Seeking a new challenge, Foulstone has swapped the Accu Stadium for The Alexander Stadium as the Midlands Hurricanes prepare to embark on their first ever season in the Betfred Championship.

Speaking with CanesTV, Mark Dunning had this to say about landing Carl as we enter the 2026 pre-season:

“We’re delighted to welcome Carl and his family to the club and - as always - the wider Hurricanes family.

At the end of last season Josh Griffin left the club to pursue another Super League opportunity with York Knights. Whilst we wish Josh nothing but the best with his new role, we knew his departure left a vital position open in which we had to fill.

When we put the advert out we were very pleased with the interest from candidates in the position; however upon meeting Carl and doing some homework on him he was the clear stand-out candidate. It will therefore come as no surprise that I was very pleased when he accepted the position.

With pre-season looming ahead we have already had multiple meetings as a coaching staff through the off season and Pottsy has been tasked with leading on some really important metrics within the physical side of our group. Both Leigh and I are looking forward to working with him as we and the boys get going next week.”

CanesTV also spoke with Pottsy about his decision to join the Canes:

“I am excited to be joining the Midland Hurricanes for the 2026 season and beyond. Having spent five years most recently with Huddersfield Giants I am looking forward to a new challenge in a new environment.

This is a club with a bold vision and a bright future and - having earned the role despite interest from a number of other candidates - I’ve been entrusted by Mark and Eorl to help the team achieve those goals.

I am excited to have the opportunity to bring my eight years of experience working in Super League to the Hurricanes in driving the physical standards the club expects of its players.

As indicated above, the Canes’ 2026 pre-season will soon be underway as the upcoming 2026 World Cup has led to an earlier starting point for the Super League and Championship clubs. We’re therefore looking forward to confirming our last bits of retention news over the next couple of weeks so fans can focus on the excitement of our Season Ticket offering and 2026 playing kits (which will be available to order shortly).
