Fixture Updates - Hunslet (H) - 14th April and Cornwall (H) -12th May

Our home fixture against Hunslet on Sunday 14th April has been moved to Olympic Legacy Stadium, Sheffield, home of the Hurricanes dual reg partners Sheffield Eagles.

Following RFL approval our home game against Cornwall RLFC on 12th May has been confirmed.

The reasons behind moving the Hunslet fixture are a direct result of a couple of things:

  • Alexander Stadium is unavailable to us during the weekend of 13/14th April due to operational reasons and therefore we have had to explore alternative dates (which unfortunately Hunslet were unable to accommodate) and then, alternative venues.

  • This is a fantastic opportunity to take the Hurricanes on the road to engage our fanbase in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.

We are delighted to confirm that this is the ONLY home fixture that will be away from Alexander Stadium this season and following the 14th April, all of our listed home games on the website will be played at the home of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with our next home game at the Alex on Saturday 27th April against Oldham.

As you will be able to tell from our fixture list, there are a few other games in the calendar that have moved around from the initial fixtures issued in December (including the Oldham game) and this was to ensure that we would be able to play almost all of our games in the stadium this season, it just so happened that the Hunslet game has been the only game that has fallen victim to circumstances beyond our control.

We are also thankful to the RFL who this week have confirmed that our home fixture against Cornwall RLFC (originally scheduled for 14th July) could be moved to 12th May - this fixture was subject to the RFL fixture dispute panel to resolve as Cornwall refused the proposed new date for the fixture of 12th May. Following the panel meeting and the Hurricanes submitting substantial evidence as to why we requested the fixture change, the panel sided with us, meaning no other home games will be away from the Alex this season.

We are disappointed to announce this so late on and appreciate that there are no home games before this fixture, however this was done with the best intentions as we wanted to ensure that we did not rush to a decision or give our fans unnecessary inconvenience. It is important to note that we are working closely with Birmingham City Council to ensure that we don’t face similar issues in future seasons.

The club are exploring the possibility of partially subsidised travel from Birmingham (Likely to be £10 return) for our Storm Card Holders for this fixture, however we will need to hit certain numbers to make this viable.
