CLUB EXERCISES OPTION ON HORNER CONTRACT

Club ensures young fullback remains a Cane a fourth season

We are delighted to confirm that Todd Horner will be a Cane until at least the end of the 2026 season after the club decided to exercise its option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.

Todd, 21, joined the Canes in June 2023 as one of Head Coach Mark Dunning’s first signings after joining the club earlier that month following the departure of Rich Squires. Despite it being his first ever professional appearance, Todd’s quality quickly became apparent on his debut as he scored a try with his touch of the ball by gliding through the Dewsbury Rams defence. He went on to make seven appearances that season.

Having already been secured for 2024, Todd went on to have a standout performance in his first full season as he scored 10 tries in 24 appearances whilst helping the club achieve its first ever playoff run last season. His efforts saw him pick up the club’s Young Player of the Year Award and be nominated for the Betfred League One Player of the Year, as well as secure a contract extension until the end of this season.

Todd has had another strong season with the club - scoring five tries in 19 appearances - including an effort against his brother during our 46-0 win over Siddal in the Second Round of the Challenge Cup. It is therefore no surprise that the club decided to extend his contract and secure his future with the club.

Head Coach Mark Dunning spoke with CanesTV about the decision to extend Todd’s contract:

“We’re really happy to activate the second year of Todd’s contract after another season of progression and development for him.

He’s a great lad and he wants to keep testing himself and progressing so I’m looking forward to seeing how he goes again in 2026 in Canes colours.”

CanesTV also spoke with Todd about his contract being extended:

“I’d first like to say thanks to all the supporters for their continued support throughout the season. It wasn’t a season we had hoped for but it puts us in good stead moving forward with a solid base we can now build on.

The clubs going in the right direction and I can’t wait to be apart of it for the 2026 season.”

Todd is our first post-season extension following the conclusion of the 2025 campaign, but he’s far from the last bit of recruitment news we have for you over the next couple of months. Keep an eye on our socials for more news!
